April 2007

Before we knew it, a new year of work lies ahead of us. As EnAcción grows, its programmes get stronger and we strive to reach more participants, while taking care to also improve the quality of their venues. This can be clearly seen in the projects' expansion. In this issue, we showcase a few projects within the Youth Programme.

This bulletin also features in-depth interviews with friends of and participants in our Programmes. As they share with us their experiences and expectations, we grow closer and become jointly responsible for the construction of a better neighbourhood for all of us.

Certain that Life is stronger than death,

YOUTH PROGRAMME
The young began the year with music and education

The library is open for consulting books or study

Lots of youngs are participating in the Music Workshop

The workshops on music and young education began the year with growth and enthusiasm. Young Education doubled the amount of scholarships and the young already had the first meeting. On the other hand, the people responsible of the workshop of music inaugurated the meetings with a presentation. This year, the workshop is also going to be held during the week.

Both projects mentioned above are included in the Young Programme and deal with the problems of the young. What is more, Young Education encourages school and University education. Therefore, more than 30 people began to take part in the project doubling the amount of students with regard to last year. In fact, many applications were received and thus the situations of the applicants were assessed in order to provide the scholarships.

The first general meeting was held on February 3rd and the general arrangements of working were discussed: not only will the students count on the scholarships but also with the library and the study and computing room. Besides, assistance will be provided in subjects such as language, maths, chemistry and physics. Students committed themselves to help other students in case they need help, to hold workshops on computing, to assist library users and to attend educational workshops among other activities, so as to return the help.

The Music Workshop started the year with a presentation. On March 24th, teachers put on display ‘chacareras’ during the afternoon. Lots of young people and neighbours were called together and danced to the chacareras outside the building where the workshops are held.

Also, teachers made a revision to the different styles of music that will be delivered while exchanging musical instruments. Rock, reggae and folklore are some of the styles of music that will be included in the workshop. Teachers made a statement on the means of working within the workshop as well. Musical language, two levels of guitar, percussion and instrumental assembly are taught. The children were invited to enrol for the music workshop at the end of the display and now there are more than 40 students that started to attend the workshop.

INTERVIEW TO MIRTA
"God bless my neighbourhood"

Mirta shared experiences and thoughts

She joined New Women and graduated in 2003.

Mirta was born in Entre Ríos, and in 1988 she moved to Los Polvorines with her husband, Rubén, and their three children. The oldest one was 12, the one in the middle was 8, and the youngest one was 3. They attended school here, and today the oldest son is two subjects away from becoming a Business Manager.

“Sometimes you say: ‘I have nothing’, but we all have something to give because it is not always about the economics. The cheapest thing that you can give, which is also the most valuable thing, is your time. To feel it this way is fantastic. I come every day full of energies".

"In the group workshops, the participants share their experiences, ask questions, and cry for help. This is the reason for me believing that the workshops are better than giving out food”.

“A lot of people say ‘If I win the lottery I will go to…’, I would not go anywhere. If I ever win the lottery I will stay here, in my neighbourhood. God bless my neighbourhood; I would not change it for the world, and I am sure that we can work together to make it even better”.
