March 2006

A new year full of expectations has started. In line with the process initiated in 2005, we have decided to incorporate new professionals to EnAcción team, which brings an air of renewal, energy and vitality.

We know that to improve the quality of the projects and enable their long term projection it is important to have trained people that get deeply involved in our actions and help the projects become solid and have a consistent theoretical framework.

In turn, having people who devote more time to EnAcción allows us, on the one hand, to receive volunteers and university students and, on the other hand, to work side by side with the beneficiaries so that step by step they begin to take responsibilities and, in the future, become activity leaders.

Finally, the Summer Camp is the first activity of the year, reminding us of the tension between daily demand, reflection and long term projection.

We hope we can again count on your help and support this year.

Greetings to all of you,

Luciano Iramain - General Coordinator

New working place for Institutional service

For the purposes of our institutional and teamwork strengthening and the development of the projects, at the beginning of the year there was a spatial redistribution of our facilities and there were new members who joined EnAcción staff.

The goals for 2006 are oriented towards continuing consolidating the projects and strengthening the institutional structure to welcome new volunteers. In addition, EnAcción will work to strengthen the formative pillar and thus deepen reflection on the significance of the work conducted so far. Finally, we will work on consolidating our relationship with other local and regional organizations with which we share our values and activities.

As to spatial redistribution, there was a change in the location of the Institutional and Educational Services facilities, the Library and the Computing room. The purpose of this redistribution is to promote the interaction between the different areas and speed up communication, leading to an improvement of our performance.

Trained staff was recruited to occupy key positions and therefore strengthen the programs. “We seek to incorporate social workers who would contribute towards an integral approach and help coordinate the work among the different projects,” commented Luciano Iramain, General Coordinator. The recruited staff consists of coordinators for the Youth and Children Programs and the cultural-sports area, a nutritionist and a person in charge of the Communication Area. “We know that there will be evident benefits, ranging from stability in the activities to an improvement in the quality of our work. Also, a personalized follow up will be possible with greater time availability,” added Luciano.

On the fifth year of ‘Todos Juntos’ Summer Camp, EnAcción participated again on Wednesday, February 15, in the MALBA (Buenos Aires Museum of Latin American Art) Summer Program for Civil Society Organizations. During the following week, starting on February 20,
the Summer Camp recreational activities continued at the University Club of Buenos Aires (CUBA).

“One of the objectives of the Summer School is to provide children who can not go on holidays with a place where they can enjoy the summer, play games, swim in the pool and go out,” comments Sergio Zelaya, a coordinator. He adds: “During the activities, we work on the concept of ‘integration’ and 'union' within the neighbourhood, creating a space where children can make friends year over year.”

During the visit to MALBA Museum, the youngest children watched the sculptures and made some drawings and collages. The older ones visited the auditorium where they learnt about the origins of cinema through visual games and then participated in their own short film --a history of pilots lost in the desert and genies inside magic lamps.

One hundred and ten children aged between 6 and 12 years took part in the activities. They were split into six groups led by ten volunteers. Silvina Marzorati, the Children Program Coordinator and responsible for the Summer Camp comments: “Lots of children who are older come to the Summer Camp to help out because they feel that it is a place of their own”. During the outdoor activities week, children swam in the pool, played water games and took part in sports and recreational activities in different facilities provided by CUBA club. In the end, children were given a picture frame with a picture of their own as a souvenir.
