Juan is 10 years old and attends fifth grade at primary school. He comes back from school at 5 p.m. and, as every Thursday, he puts on his pair of snickers to go to the soccer training. He goes out into the street and, between dust and rubbles, he walks five blocks to “El campito” playground, where he trains, together with other children of his age, for the Saturday match. San Pablo Soccer Club is attended by 80 players, who are divided into six divisions according to their age: pre-infantiles, infantiles, menores, cadetes, juveniles and mayores. These divisions take part in a tournament organized by San Isidro Municipality, where they were granted special mentions for their performance and were promoted to the A Division last year. Goals set for
this year include sharing the responsibilities still more and improving
the facilities. Some of the senior players are starting to be in
charge of certain tasks: two will be in charge of soccer equipment
and implements; three, of the facility maintenance, and four will
be trainers of some of the divisions. As to the facilities, it is planned to refill and flatten the soccer field to improve its conditions for training. In the future, having a field in compliance with regulations will allow the Club to play as home team and join official tournaments. In this way, the Club has consolidated itself as the sports area in the neighbourhood, a space which neighbours, through their own participation, are starting to feel their own. It has also consolidated itself as part of the Youth Program. Soccer has become a tool for communicating values such as solidarity and team work towards a common objective, playing “with” the other and not “against” the other, among others. |

Over a number of years, EnAccion has been a member of a network made
up by social organizations from the northwestern districts of the
Great Buenos Aires area. This network publishes a newspaper titled
La Posta Regional. For this year, a citizen empowerment activity is
planned to be carried out with the objective of fostering reflection
among citizens.
The mentioned organizations are located in the districts of San Miguel, Moreno, Islas Malvinas and José C. Paz. Each one of them deals with a specific area: education, youth, sports, popular economy, transport, etc. Its members became acquainted with each other through their specific activities or needs. Their daily, newly-born team work practice brought about visions, resources and shared knowledge, which in turn resulted in La Posta Regional, a periodic publication that fosters a fluent and formative dialogue among neighbors and families. Both enthusiastic and practical, this newspaper stands as a regional communicational tool and seeks to establish those priorities that are considered vital and strategic to improve the life quality of the families, both in their neighborhoods and in their relevant institutional environment. A citizen empowerment activity is being prepared to encourage neighbors to reflect upon their commitment to building the neighborhood’s destiny. “Public use” will be one of the issues to be addressed. Surveys, meetings, soccer championships, recitals and other cultural events will be organized. This project will be carried out throughout the whole year and will require a fluent dialogue among organizations. It is a significant challenge, and team work will be vital for the purposes of organization of the network. The General Coordinator, Luciano Iramain, states “We have joined this network in order to give our work another dimension. If we are to change reality, it is important to go beyond the neighborhood and to be in contact as well as to jointly reflect and work along with other organizations”. Further information
